The former world number one Serb won the first match 6:3 and the second 6:2, holding Kovacevic’s serve twice. The third match was the closest, as the American player handled the Serb’s serve twice, but Djokovic remained calm and won the third set after falling short.
In the second round, Djokovic will meet Marton Vosovic, who defeated Hugo Grenier in four sets. The scheduled date for Wednesday’s game is expected to be Tuesday.
Carlos Alcaraz, first in the world rankings, had no problems in the first round either. The twenty-year-old Spaniard defeated Italian Flavio Coppoli in three sets.
