In a stunning new twist on Final Fantasy – and the role-playing game genre as a whole – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth features story and characters. It’s hard to wrap your head around, right? But it is clearly the truth.
Square Enix has released another weird developer update for the upcoming sequel. This post reads: “Players will experience a series of narrative developments […] while discovering each character’s fate.”
Not everyone is as smart as we are, so we won’t judge you if the terms pop into your head. In this case, “chain of narrative developments” means that the game will have a story. Square Enix is breaking new ground again, just like the original Final Fantasy VII from many years ago!
No, but seriously, it’s a weird way to promote the game. The publisher has been pumping out these updates for the past few days, but this one takes the cake. According to the previous update, Rebirth offers a “high degree of freedom,” which seems at least vaguely interesting in the context of Remake’s highly linear gameplay structure.
By the way, can you believe Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will have a story? And even the characters? Pick your jaw off the floor in the comments section below.
