The British Foreign Office has warned travelers to Spain to expect stormy weather in the Canary Islands until Thursday 8 June, but Spanish and Portuguese meteorological organizations have also issued warnings.
The storm is heading towards Britain in the second half of the week, where the storm system will collapse and temperatures could reach 30 degrees during the week.
On the island of Madeira, on Monday, 28 flights were canceled and 12 diverted, and at Cristiano Ronaldo Airport in Funchal, several flights were canceled due to the weather.
Ten flights were diverted to Tenerife yesterday due to poor visibility due to the storm.
ANA, the authority that operates Portuguese airports, said that during storms, catering and airline counters will be available outside normal business hours, and terminal workers will assist passengers.
Strong winds and heavy rain are expected in the Canary Islands this week, with the westernmost islands affected, but the larger and popular destinations of Tenerife and Gran Canaria could also be affected by wind gusts of up to 88 kilometers per hour. At the same time, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have been excluded from major storms, but heavy rains can still affect them.
Winds of up to 90 km/h are expected on the islands of La Palma and La Gomera, and yellow rain and wind warnings have been issued for all other islands except Fuerteventura.
