The indictment issued Friday also includes charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice, unauthorized retention of classified documents and making a false statement in the case. Among other things, the indictment states that the former president refused to turn over classified documents kept at his Mar-a-Lago home in South Florida, which he took with him after leaving the White House in January 2021.
According to the indictment, the stolen documents included information about US nuclear programs, the potential for military attack by the US and its allies, and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.

In addition, on the day the indictment was announced, two lawyers who were representing former US President Donald Trump in the trial resigned.
