Twenty years later, Prince of Persia: Newlyweds can be entertained with a mouse!

To the delight of fans, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, the final installment of Ubisoft’s legendary trilogy, finally returns with bug fixes and up-to-date support. Thanks to the tireless moderator, the game is now playable two decades after its release.

Under Ubisoft’s hands, the Prince of Persia trilogy has become a true cult classic because of its unforgettable moments and power of nostalgia. Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones was the final installment of the trilogy, and while the game was widely praised, it also suffered from a lot of bugs that prevented a proper gaming experience.

For a long time, the game suffered from annoying bugs, poor mouse handling, and countless sloppy camera movements that Ubisoft never fixed. The new patch fixes most of the issues and also enables support for DirectX 11, 4x MSAA, and 4K monitors.

The designer who created the patch, which goes by the name DawidFreeman on Nexus Mods, fixed the annoying issue faced by gamers who use a mouse and keyboard. The game suffered from a mouse dead zone issue that made it impossible to move in any direction other than the x and y axes. This was due to the game using analog gamepad simulation of mouse movement, which according to the mod author is not really suitable for a PC port.

DawidFreeman also used a DgVoodoo shell to convert the game to DirectX 11 and implemented a 60fps lock to prevent further physics and graphics issues. This allowed it to remove the original code’s defective MSAA and force 4x MSAA, as well as widescreen support and 4K resolution, without users having to fiddle with .ini files.

With version 1.4 of the patch, the author also managed to fix the notorious springboard bug. This bug caused the prince to slide instead of jump off the jumping platforms in the puzzle, driving players crazy.

Since Ubisoft did not open source the game, the effectiveness of unofficial patches remains somewhat limited. The folks at Ubisoft made a very strange decision to install a part of the camera, which is hard to fix without source code. In the original version, you could only move the camera on the x or y axis (there was no diagonal support), which made it almost impossible to play the game with Mouse. Fortunately, I was able to solve this problem.” said the creator of the mod.

Gamers have been aware of these errors for a long time, and many assumed that the problem might have been with mouse sensitivity or camera settings. It took time to figure out that the problem was actually with the game itself. This is the first time anyone has found an actual solution to these problems in all these years.

Perhaps this rediscovered classic after twenty years will find a better reception on PC than it did recently, The New Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
