Rolls-Royce is developing the electric plane in Budapest

As part of the three-year support programme, Rolls-Royce has received HUF 1.7 billion in government support to enable the company to continue its research and development programs and revolutionize all-electric and hybrid aviation with its engineering solutions. Thanks to tender support from the National Investment Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, another 20 new positions will open for engineers at the company’s Budapest site, working on technological solutions to shape the future of sustainable aviation.

As part of the Rolls-Royce International Electrical Works organization, Rolls-Royce Hungary engineers develop power distribution and drive systems. Rolls-Royce currently employs about 120 people, mostly engineers, in its Budapest office. Rolls-Royce Electrical has demonstrated its advanced engineering techniques in pilot programs such as the development of the four-seat H3PS aircraft, where the Hungarian team was responsible for designing the world’s unique parallel hybrid propulsion system and power electronics.

Rolls-Royce Hungary began operations in October 2019 as part of the Rolls-Royce electric business located in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore and Norway, after the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce bought eAircraft. Their competencies include the creation of new electrical devices, engines, generators, transformers, controls, energy storage devices, and power distribution systems (EPDS) for passenger aircraft, civil aviation vehicles, and power equipment.
