According to the ministry, the number of contagious viral variants increased than before, with zero hours on Sunday. The hardest hit areas include the Czech Republic and Tyrol.
As a rule, this classification is subject to an entry ban. Exemptions from the rule – meaning entry permit – can be granted to German citizens, foreigners living in Germany, only travelers transiting the country and who participate in the movement of goods.
The category that was introduced at the end of January has so far only included countries that are not neighboring Germany.
On the other hand, the Czech Republic and Tyrol are neighboring Germany, and it remains uncertain what rules will apply from Sunday to all those who move between Germany and the restricted areas for work, family or other reasons. The Federal Ministry of the Interior holds consultations in this regard.
There will likely be permanent border controls at the German-Czech and Tyrolean crossings from Sunday. The Berlin leadership urged the two provinces most affected by the border post, Bavaria and Saxony.
