Those working abroad must notify the government office of the establishment and termination of their insurance within 15 days.
Direct Hungarian citizens can work freely in all EU member states.
At the same time, an insurance declaration created on the basis of working abroad is mandatory for those working in EU member states (EEA), Switzerland, international organizations or countries that have signed a social security agreement with Hungary (eg Serbia and Montenegro, Australia, the States United States of America).
Upon notification, employees in affected countries are relieved of the obligation to pay contributions in Hungary. After notification of the insurance relationship established abroad, the government office in charge of the place of residence will temporarily invalidate the Thai number. After that, health insurance benefits are no longer dependent on Hungarian social insurance, and the previously issued EU card cannot be used as proof of Hungarian insurance. Anyone working abroad is entitled to medically necessary health care in Hungary with an EU card issued by a foreign insurance company or a form that replaces it.
It is important to know that when announcing the termination of a foreign insurance relationship, the EU form issued by the foreign insurance company, international organization or other certificate must be attached to the notification.
The notification can be submitted on the Customer Portal, in person or by post using the form provided for this purpose.
