Transylvania almost became a disaster zone

Sudden rainfall in several provinces of Transylvania has cut off many settlements and made national, district and village roads impassable for the past 24 hours. Military firefighters had to intervene in 66 settlements in 14 districts.

According to Sunday’s report by the Romanian National Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), over the weekend more than 3,700 military firefighters were on standby to help those in trouble after a Category 3 storm warning, a red signal, was in effect in several provinces. . Nationally, a total of 51 people had to be evacuated: 23 were displaced and 23 rescued from flooding, and were housed by the authorities in boarding houses.

In addition to several provinces of Transylvania, including Fhir, Arad, Bihar, Hunyad, Maramaros, Maros and Thames, rescue units also had to help in the settlements of southern Romania and Moldavia, after swollen rivers and streams flooded homes and yards due to surprise. Rainfall.

Trees that were felled by the strong winds damaged roofs of buildings and cars. In twenty-six provinces, including almost all provinces of Transylvania, operational councils of emergency inspectorates have convened.

Heavy rains caused by thunderstorms with strong gusts damaged four national roads in Viher, Bihar and Hunyad districts and the roads of the latter four districts had to be closed due to road inundation and fallen trees.

Mountain rescuers rescued a group of 25 tourists from a flooded creek in the settlement of Remiti, in the Fahre province.

Three settlements in Hunyad County were cut off due to flooding. Hunyad County has declared that the relationship with the affected settlements is permanent, and they are trying to make the infrastructure usable in the first round. In addition to the army firefighters, the gendarmerie is also on standby.

In Romania, the National Meteorological Service issued a first- and second-class alert for 36 counties in the country on Sunday. The second-class alert valid until Monday morning mainly applies to counties in Transylvania. A Class I and II flood warning for rivers in the area was in effect until Monday.
