The daughter of movie director Spike Lee and his son became ambassadors for the Golden Globe Gala this year.
The Hollywood Accredited Foreign Journalists Association announced Tuesday that Sachel and Jackson Lee will be ambassadors for the awards ceremony in February this year. Satchil, 26, and Jackson, 23, are the first non-white siblings to be given the job. Additionally, Jackson is the first black man to become a Golden Globe ambassador.
Sachel Lee, who was the creative director of cultural and art magazine, Drum, said she is proud to continue the father’s storytelling legacy. Jackson talked about how their father taught them that entertainment is an important cultural factor for change.
Satchl chose Callen-Lorde as a partner to support LGBTQ communities in New York. Jackson Lee is partnering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ volunteer mentoring network as an ambassador for the 78th Golden Globes.
The Golden Globe Ambassadors have always been the children of the celebrities who helped organize the awards ceremony. Previously, the children of Pierce Brosnan, Dylan and Paris, the daughter of Idris Elba, the daughter of Eisan Elba and Dwayne Johnson, Simon Garcia, also held the ambassadorial position.
The Golden Globe will take place on February 28 at the Beverly Hilton Beverly Hills. The ceremony will present the Journalists’ Association Film and Television Awards.
