Despite Friday’s strong result, the Spanish Ferrari driver is not very optimistic about racing in the F1 British GP. Leclerc will be leaping into the unknown.

If we just look at the results list, Ferrari can be optimistic at Silverstone, as Carlos Sainz finished Friday’s British Formula 1 Grand Prix in second place behind Max Verstappen, just 22 thousandths of a second behind. But one thing is the single-lap speed, according to the Spaniard, the stages of racing and tire management, which are often Ferrari’s main Achilles’ heel, seemed less good for Red:

“It was a very difficult day with the wind, it’s very difficult to get used to the conditions and the car on this track,” Sainz assesses in front of the Formula1.com cameras. “We really made quite a bit of progress between the first and second practice sessions, and tried different settings and steering to try and improve the car in the conditions. It seems to have worked, but our race pace still didn’t look great, we need to work on that.”

“We are definitely trying to work on tire wear because we know that will be our main weakness this weekend. We are working hard to see what we can do to manage it better. Mercedes, for example, did a much better job than us, and so did Red Bull. Although it may seem like we were in second place today, we still have some homework to do.”

At the same time, the possibility of a rainy time trial teases Sainz: “I’m ready for it. Whatever comes, let it come. I like driving in the rain and have been fast in those conditions lately. Whatever comes, I’ll enjoy it. I think Red Bull is still He is the favourite, but we can be good. I think the race will be more complicated, but the timer also depends on the weather, whether the track is wet or not. I think it will be fun, a typical British Saturday!”

While Sainz was second in the late Friday afternoon, Charles Leclerc was unable to complete a lap in FP2 after Scuderia found an electronic problem with his car that cost him his entire one-hour session. However, according to the Monaco driver, this can only hold them back in terms of mileage and a lack of data at Silverstone – where, despite his statement after last week’s sprint, he doesn’t shy away from a potential time trial on a wet track:

“There was a little problem with the car, but that’s it. I think the team has worked out what went wrong. We’ve basically replaced everything in the car and it should be fine by tomorrow. It shouldn’t affect the weekend.” The week, minus the lost kilometers and laps in training session 2. It’s a bit unfortunate, because that’s when we normally prepare for the race, and we promise Sunday will be dry, so we’ll jump into the unknown a bit, but tomorrow could be very different with rain expected. I’m looking forward to the rainy weather because I’ve struggled in the last few races in those conditions, but I’ve been working on it, so I’m sure it will be better.”
