Residents of South Carolina witnessed an unusual incident, as a spotted turtle crawled ashore to lay eggs. Why is this special? This species of turtle only lays eggs every 2-3 years, however they only go ashore for a short time.

A turtle conservation organization in South Carolina has shared details of a very bizarre incident in which a spotted loggerhead turtle crawled onto a crowded beach in broad daylight to lay her eggs.

This species of turtle spends most of its life in saltwater and estuarine habitats, where only females come ashore for short periods of time to lay eggs. This is also a big moment, when they lay an average of four eggs, after which they don’t lay eggs at all for 2-3 years.
