Americans are flocking to Europe, but they aren’t happy about it everywhere

With the effects of the pandemic slowly fading completely, European tourism is undergoing a remarkable transformation. The once deserted streets are bustling again, for example, due to the ever increasing number of people arriving from America.

Compared to last year, the number of American tourists visiting Europe increased by fifty-five percent, which is a new record.

Airlines have also contributed to this by creating some new options, making European flights more affordable.

Popular tourist attractions such as Paris, London and Rome are currently filled with tourists.

The increase in tourism is a relief for many local businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic. Giuseppe Roscioli, president of the Rome Hotel Association, sees the tourism boom as a “magic moment” after the previous hotels closed.

In response to the increased demand, room rates rose sharply—twenty percent in Rome, thirty percent in London, fifty percent in Paris.

However, not all tourists bring pluses.

In June, two American tourists were caught pushing and throwing their electric scooters down the Spanish Steps in Rome, causing $25,000 in damages, according to local authorities.

There was also a recent case in the Italian capital where a tourist who used a key to carve his and his girlfriend’s name on the wall of the Colosseum could be fined more than $16,000 and sentenced to up to five years in prison.
