The Sino-American consultations lasted 16 hours, and according to Beijing, the relationship was shaken by the previous drop of a Chinese hot air balloon in the United States.
Speaking after her visit to Beijing, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that US-China relations are now “on a more solid footing.”
After the optimistic American politician’s four-day visit to Beijing, the purpose of which was to ease tensions between the two major powers of the world. (If only because when he arrived at Beijing airport, a rainbow appeared in the sky, which his Chinese hosts said was a sign of optimism.)
Yilin was received by several senior government officials, including Prime Minister Li Xiang, and in the meetings, both sides continued to advocate for greater cooperation despite differences between the two countries.
The main economic problem between the two countries currently is the sanctions regime, which affects both. The United States restricts high-level technology exports, and in turn, the Chinese have reduced rare earth exports to the United States, which in turn puts American semiconductor manufacturers in a difficult position.
The US Treasury Secretary’s visit was preceded by that of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, signaling the administration’s effort led by President Joe Biden to stabilize the strained bilateral relationship.
“Both countries have an obligation to responsibly manage this relationship: to find a way to live together and share in global prosperity,” said the finance minister, stressing the “vital importance” of high-level relations.
Xinhua said Janet Yellen and Vice Premier Hu Li-feng met on Saturday and agreed to “strengthen communication and cooperation to meet global challenges.”
