It’s interesting if Asobo Studio is really groping in this direction, but since A Plague Tale: Innocence’s first part won several awards, and the second chapter, subtitled Requiem, wasn’t bad either, it’s somewhat understandable why they wanted to to do that. triple…
Several job postings have appeared on the Asobo Studio website and LinkedIn. Many of these are for Microsoft Flight Simulator (yes, it’s the same studio!), but some jobs are looking for people to join the Plague Tale team. Our relevant open positions are: Lead Visual Effects Artist, Senior Game Designer, Senior AI Programmer, and Game Animator.
The first Game Designer job offer states that the successful applicant will have to team up for A Plague Tale: Requiem as it is in pre-development, and pre-production, and it would be a plus if you played one of the two. Games, or perhaps you have some familiarity with narrative-based adventure games. Last November, Asobo Studio had a similar job offer. A Plague Tale: Requiem was already released, so it no longer has a pre-production process. It could just be a new game, which is surprising, because in the meantime Asobo is focusing a lot more on Microsoft Flight Simulator (and they’re looking for more people there).
The studio hasn’t explicitly said a third episode is in the works, but director Kevin Chotto said shortly before the release of A Plague Tale: Requiem that even though the story ends with this game, they won’t close the door, because players are waiting for feedback. With an average score on OpenCritic of 84 (on a scale of 1-100), the game released in October, which reached 1 million players in two weeks, was well received by the press, although the presence of Xbox Game Pass also helped.
If the Third Plague Tale was created, we’d have to wait another 2-3 years for that, and at the end of the Requiem team list we encountered a scene that suggested it could take place in another period, or even in the present day. We’ll see what the studio finally comes up with, and until then we can’t help but wait.
