According to KIM’s statement, the term of the current board members lasted until July 14, and the appointment of new members for a period of 6 years. The Board of Directors will be renewed on the joint proposal of the Minister of Culture and Innovation Janos Csák and Tamas Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), and with the approval of ELKH President Baláz Gulias. The council, which previously consisted of 13 people, will continue its work with nine people in the future.
They said the main task of the renewed governing body is to increase the measurable effectiveness of the Hungarian scientific research network, as well as position it at the center of international scientific power.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the organization currently operating under the name ELKH, Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN) since September 1, is the President, Gulyás Balázs, who has been Chairman of the Research Network since May 1, 2023.
“Balázs Gulyás has worked and conducted research abroad for more than 41 years – among others at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and then at Nanyang Technology University in Singapore, so he has achieved a tremendous achievement as a scientist and scientific organizer,” they wrote.
In addition to Balázs Gulyás (neuroscientist, external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences), members of the new board of directors are Veronika Udam (Széchenyi Prize-winning doctor, biochemist, university professor), Enikő Bollobás (literary historian, one of the founders of the ELTE department for American Studies), Sharaf Hassan (Dean, Head of Department Professor at BME Department of Automation and Applied Informatics), Laszlo Hunyadi (Széchenyi Prize-winning University Professor, Director of the Institute of Enzymology at ELKH TTK) Jakab Rowland (Managing Director of Ericsson Hungary, Chairman of the Business Council European Hungarian), Melinda Beatrix Kovacs (Chechen-Award-Winning Veterinarian, University Professor, Director of the Institute of Physiology and Nutrition of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences), and Gábor Szabó (Certified Physicist, University Professor, Full Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Executive Director of the Laser Research Institute (ELI-ALPS) and University Professor Zoltán Oszkár Szántó (Corvinus of Budapest), Head of the CIAS Research Center).
