Gupta found an alternative explanation for the redshift. Instead of being just a sign of the expansion of the universe, according to the researcher in Ottawa, it is a hybrid phenomenon with a complex origin. In 1929, Fritz Zwicky hypothesized that redshift was caused by “light stress”. In English: Photons from distant objects appear redder because they lose energy during the long journey, for example during collisions with other particles. Gupta believes that if you combine this theory, which has been rejected and contradicts observations, with the accepted theory of the redshift caused by the expansion of the universe, some physical processes can be explained more accurately. According to Gupta, if we give physical constants a chance to evolve, the high redshift galaxies discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope could be much older, i.e. not just a few hundred million years (after the Big Bang), but billions of years. This would explain how galaxies that are considered young can have ancient galactic mass and evolution.

Gupta also proposed a revision of the cosmological constant (which represents the dark energy responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe). It instead proposes the introduction of a new constant that would describe the evolution of paired constants and help explain the contrasting properties of the observed early galaxies.

Why should Gupta theory be treated with reservations? Primarily because it would include ideas that had previously been rejected by science. His claim (of course, this does not mean that it cannot be true) that our world is twice as old as the accepted age currently supported by so many theories that have been substantiated in so many branches is also very dangerous. Although he has published many of his research findings on the subject in recent years, he has almost without exception recorded them alone (no other researchers with him). This may also indicate that he is professionally isolated and has no supporters for his far-fetched theories. In any case, there are several reasons to treat the idea as a scientific curiosity rather than as something radically new.
