Kerry and Hsieh Chin Hua, China’s special envoy for climate change, began negotiations on climate change on Monday, which will continue through Wednesday. According to previous reports, extreme weather conditions in the past period will also be discussed.
Kerry’s visit is another sign that the two sides are making efforts to stop the downward spiral in Sino-US relations
China Daily wrote before Kerry’s arrival.
According to the newspaper, since China and the United States are the two largest emitters of greenhouse gases harmful to the climate, they “have a special responsibility to find common ground in addressing climate change.”
After Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Kerry became the third high-ranking US politician to visit China in the past few weeks.
The two superpowers have renewed climate talks after a break of nearly a year.
