The government coalition might collapse in another country

The election of the President of the Republic – who plays a mostly symbolic role in Latvian politics and Latvian politics – is scheduled for Wednesday, but that could cause serious problems within the government coalition: the three-way coalition put forward different candidates. The right-wing nationalist party, the National Alliance, supported the incumbent president, Yigil Levits, who eventually stepped down, citing a de facto alliance between the oligarch and pro-Kremlin forces backing the opponent. Another member of the coalition, the Consolidated List A their leader, Uldis Pilens was nominated, and the third member, the centre-right j Egység, nominated Edgars Rinkevics, who had been foreign minister for a long time. In addition to politicians, there is also a third presidential candidate: the Social Democratic Party Halladoc has nominated Elena Pinto for the presidency.

However, with the fact that the three-party government coalition supports different candidates, the government is practically the same. About to collapse drifted With the election of Foreign Minister Edgar Renkiewicz, a government crisis may arise, as two coalition parties will be dissatisfied with the New Unity Party taking over as President and Prime Minister.

– The ruling New Unity party and the opposition Greens and Farmers Association as well as progressives seem close to reaching an agreement on electing Renkivics, according to Einars Slyrsz, leader of the opposition First Latvia party. He added that at least 51 votes are needed to elect the president, so he does not see it impossible for Renkifex to emerge as the winner of the presidential election as a result of 52 votes from the three parties. Slessers also noted that, according to informal talks, Prime Minister Chrisjanis Karins may reprimand some coalition partners for their refusal to implement the necessary reforms. Considering the speculation On the possible agreement of the new unit with the Greens, Farmers and Progressives Association, Sellers came to the conclusion that the existing coalition had practically disintegrated and that a new government had to be formed, since the current government was ineffective and indecisive.

At the same time, the politician expressed his surprise that the new unit is ready to make peace with the head of the Greens and Farmers Association, the former mayor of Ventpils Ivars Lembergs, after the Lembergs were blacklisted in the United States as a result of the efforts of the Latvian Foreign Minister and Minister of Justice.

The opposition Latvian First party has already announced that it will not be part of such an alliance. If the new unit is not in opposition and Rinkivics is elected president, Latvia decides to first collect signatures from voters to start a referendum on the dissolution of the Latvian Parliament, the Saimaa. According to press information, Latvia first party representative Nine deputies will vote for Oldis Bilenes in the presidential elections on Wednesday. The decision came after the party’s deputies met with the presidential candidate Bilens, who met with a number of political parties and groups before the elections.
