Natural gas used in the Czech Republic arrived in the country via Germany in the first six months of this year. Russian gas has been replaced by Norwegian natural gas and LNG from LNG terminals in the Netherlands and Belgium.
The capacity of LNG terminals in the Netherlands could cover about 40 percent of the annual consumption of natural gas in the Czech Republic. So LNG plays a very important role in creating energy security in the Czech Republic
– the minister told reporters.
Josef Sekela is convinced the Czechs should continue negotiations for more LNG capacity. Negotiations are already underway on this issue with Germany, which is building new LNG terminals.
Ministry statement According to the Czech Republic, there is currently 3.04 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is 88 percent. At this time last year, there was 2.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas in gas storage facilities, while in previous years there was an average of 2.47 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The record level of natural gas reserves is partly due to the recent decline in consumption in the Czech Republic. In the first half of this year, the Czechs used 3.96 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 12 percent less than last year. The Czech minister indicated that compared to previous years, the decrease averaged 20 percent.
