Finally, it’s easy to send files between Android and Windows

AirDrop has been working well at Apple for a long time, allowing you to easily share files between the manufacturer’s devices, be it iPhone, iPad or Mac. The Android equivalent of this is Nearby Share, which is finally available in a stable release for Windows 10 and 11.

Google introduced Nearby Sharing functionality back in 2020, which was available for devices going back to Android 6.0, which means it is supported by almost all Android devices. With its help, you can quickly and easily share various contents (such as photos, links, documents and other files) with nearby devices. You don’t need to install or configure anything, it is available in Android factory share function.

Last year, it was announced that Nearby Sharing would also be available on Windows, meaning it would be easier to send files between different phones, tablets, laptops, and computers. The function has been available in beta for a long time, that is, it has been tested directly, and now the final version has finally appeared.

Most importantly, it requires a 64-bit system to run, also requires Bluetooth and WiFi, and ARM-based devices are not supported.

The good news is that Google is already negotiating with PC manufacturers so that Nearby Sharing can be installed later on different factory PCs, just like on Android devices, so you really don’t have to do anything to make file sharing work quickly and easily.
