The first evening program of the Fukuoka World Aquatic World Championships swimming pool competitions achieved a brilliant finale and three world records; With one exception, an Australian winner has been crowned in each event.
The first final of the day immediately brought a huge battle, in the 400m race, Australian Samuel Short beat Olympic champion and defending champion Ahmed Hafnaoui from Tunisia by only two hundredths. Both crossed the finish line in 3:41 minutes, a mark no one has broken since 2012, not far behind Germany’s Paul Biedermann’s world record of 3:40.07 minutes in a shark suit set in 2009.
The Australians triumphed in the women’s 4×100 relay with a world record time of 3:27.96 minutes, bringing their record of 3:29.69 set at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics to last.
The men’s race has also been won by the Australians, the Italians after 33 and the Americans after 65 centuries.
