The principal of Kazinczy Ferenc Primary School in Miskolc asked the Municipality of Miskolc to help find a solution to move the large painting owned by the municipality in the school hall. I want to use the area occupied by Al Bano for school purposes.
The municipality tried to help – it contacted institutions in the city who, at its discretion, could provide a suitable place to offer work in the long term – but it was not successful. All this can be read in the letter that Andrea Vargathe Deputy Mayor of Miskolc notes, and what has been sent Dezs Vali For a painter, the aforementioned painting is by the Budapest-based artist. The letter also states that since no place could be found for a large-format painting, “storing it in the Otto Hermann Museum appears to be the only solution”. Approval is required from a nationally recognized and recognized visual artist.
did not agree
However, Dezső Váli not only gave permission but took the letter immediately. “I do not consent to the removal of my mural. The mural is as big as the staircase behind it and has been part of the school for decades. To remove it and put it into storage means in practice the willful destruction of a work worth so many millions of forints. Directors come and go, and the fate of the work to which it belongs cannot be That depends on the person’s idea and taste. If a wall is needed, the opposite wall is available,” reads the message sent in response, which was also posted on his blog (deske.hu).
We contacted Dezső Váli, who told our newspaper that the reply letter was sent on July 31, and since then there has been no response from the city council.
– Forty years ago, a valuable artifact was given as a gift, and its improper handling is already a legal category, and it can become a court case. If the work was stored, it would be tantamount to destroying it. As he said, he is not against the municipality or the deputy mayor, he understands them and would like them to find a solution to this issue together.
At the request of Miskolc Gallery
Dezső Váli told our paper that the painting was made at the request of the Miskolc Gallery in 1972, and the title of the painting is The Gate of the Gallery. (The artist writes in his blog: He painted it in one day, on all fours.) It is as big as where it was made: 5 and a half meters high. Then he took her home towards the end of the show, and she stayed in the house for years. Next, he found the Kazinczy School, where the wall was as big as a finished painting. On February 23, 1981, more than 42 years ago, the plaque was placed in its current location.
“Then I somehow lost the address of the school, so I didn’t keep in touch with them.” I finally managed to get hold of it, and in June 2011 I traveled to Miskolc, ordered a ladder and redid the painting myself, said the 81-year-old artist. We found out from him, after that he gave the work to the museum as a gift, and it is now treated as worthless.
I’m still waiting for a response
“I’m still waiting for the deputy mayor’s response.” Now I see there are three options. Or the municipality realizes that they must find a suitable place for him: they may have approached several establishments, but perhaps not the ones that welcome him. If not in the city, then in the province, but it would be nice if they found a place for him. As a second option, perhaps it could be returned to the former portico building, as it was set up at that time. If there is no place for it, I will have to fetch it from the city, – said the artist, he also has a plan for it, his friends will carry him and take care of him. We would like to add that the city will lose a valley business worth millions.
We asked the press service of the Miskolc City Hall what they plan to do.
We have received the following response:
Unfortunately, the ownership of the artwork is unclear, as no written document has been preserved or can be found regarding its creation or why it was not transferred to the Hermann Otto Museum with the other artworks displayed there afterwards. Miskolc Gallery, which previously housed the work Instead, the work was moved to its current location, at the school.
According to some sources, the painting is officially owned by the city of Miskolc and only held by the school, but according to the artist himself, he previously donated the picture to the school. However, the municipality of MJV Miskolc is not the supervisor or the supervising body of the school, and the removal of the image was initiated by the school not by the city. The headmaster – we emphasize again – is not the city of Miskolc, therefore he cannot give instructions to the school or dissuade it from its intentions. The school’s decision can be influenced by the administrator, KLIK, and school district.
The city of Miskolc is trying to help save, protect and preserve the image, so it sought many educational and other institutions where there would be a suitable place and surface to put the artwork on a large scale, but the concerned institutions refused to do so. to do that. Since it is a work of about 3 by 5 meters, given its size, the city could only disassemble it and provide storage space for the painting through the Hermann Otto Museum, with many of the details that make up the work itself, which have been grouped together in the school hall.
The city of Miskolc has done everything to help protect and preserve the work of art for future generations, and for this reason it has contacted the institutions that have emerged as potential venues, and therefore it is trying to help through the museum, but with the decision of the school, since the institution does not keep it, it cannot be influenced.
