INDEX – Outside – Boris Johnson could be in serious trouble

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are preparing for a legal battle, just hours before a deadline to hand over the material to the official authority investigating the pandemic. Johnson, who was prime minister during the pandemic, is fighting to stop the Cabinet Office from releasing all his unaltered WhatsApp messages and diaries to the chair of the inquiry, Baroness Heather Hallett, writing: Sky News.

With a 4 p.m. deadline, Hallett wants to see all government messages, which he says are vital to the investigation. He is said to have warned the government that it is a crime not to release the material, which the government opposes, and is therefore ready to take legal action.

The British government argues that turning over all the letters would prevent members of the government from communicating freely in the future and that much of the material is unrelated to the case.
