A court in Georgia charged Donald Trump and his associates with attempting to rig the 2020 election. Also among the charges was “incitement to perjury by a public servant.” This is already the fourth indictment against the former US president, reports A Sky News.
Fulton County District Attorney Fanny Willis has brought a total of 13 counts against the former president and his associates, including forgery and racketeering. At a news conference, Attorney General Willis gave Trump and all his co-accused until noon on August 25 to turn themselves in to police.
He added that he hopes to set a trial date within the next six months and plans to try all 19 defendants together.
The former president may go to jail
In addition to Donald Trump, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Trump’s former attorney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and John Eastman, another former attorney for Trump, have also been indicted. The 98-page indictment listed 19 defendants and 41 offenses.
According to the indictment, Trump may have pressured the southern state’s election supervisor — non-Republicans — based on a phone conversation, when he asked him over the phone to find him 11,780 votes, which could have prevented a Biden victory in the state. If convicted, they could be sentenced to up to twenty years in prison.
As we wrote, two federal cases and one in New York State have already been initiated against the 45th President of the United States. According to the indictment, Donald Trump may have directly contributed to the fact that his supporters surrounded the US Parliament building, the Capitol, in order to prevent the inauguration of Joe Biden, who won the 2020 presidential election.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office filed a 34-count indictment against Trump over his payment of Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. He was also charged with storing several boxes of classified documents in his Florida home after leaving office and refusing to turn them over.
