The first ship to use Ukraine’s newly created Black Sea passage through Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait has succeeded, marking a major milestone. This development was confirmed by an eyewitness on Friday.
The ship in question is A Joseph Schultea container ship flying the flag of Hong Kong. The ship has been in the Black Sea port of Odessa in Ukraine since February 23, 2022. The ship was practically trapped due to the blockade imposed by Russia.
In response to the situation, Ukraine announced last week a Creation of a “humanitarian corridor” on the Black Sea. The initiative aims to free cargo ships stuck in Ukrainian ports after the termination of the grain export agreement last month.
However, it remains unclear whether Moscow will recognize and respect this corridor. Many shipping and insurance sources have expressed concern about potential safety issues en route.
