People were at a loss on Friday on competition day at the World Championships in Athletics in Budapest at the National Sports Centre, as the remarkable events took place in quick succession. In the stands, you had to be very alert so the crowd didn’t miss any of it. In the women’s triple jump, for example, Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela won the gold medal on her last attempt, and for the fourth time in a row she was no better than her at the World Cup. The American (Noah Lyles) won the men’s 200-meter race, while the Jamaican (Cherica Jackson) won the women’s race. This time there were a lot of Hungarians in the evening’s final programme, who could be excited by the host country’s fans, and the women’s 4 x 100m relay improved the national record by 11 one-hundredths of a second in the qualifying race!
Hungarian Gyorgy Herzig finished 23rd in the men’s javelin heats.
