Heracles Cup: Easy opening against New Zealand

Heracles Cup: Easy opening against New Zealand

Our U-20 women’s national team, preparing for the World Cup, started the international tournament of the Hekralis Cup in Margitsigit with expected and confident success: the girls won 19-5 against New Zealand.

With gradualism in mind, the Heracles Cup in Margitsigate started with the easiest match for our U-20 women’s national team – beating New Zealand is not a problem at any level in the sport, as it is now.

Marton Bentsur’s side pulled it all off in the first quarter with a 6-1 lead, all in a way that made building attacks look clumsy at times. We didn’t really have any problems with defence, we chased balls very smoothly, sometimes around the middle, sometimes up the field, and shots under pressure didn’t cause any problems for Poglarka Nizemely. In the end, the New Zealanders scored their goal in a somewhat surprising way, from an attack from the middle, which surprised Maestro Benczor.

However, the team opened the second quarter with two quick goals, doubled the lead in 49 seconds, and then the game became a bit choppy again – which was understandable, of course, in the first game played after so many weeks. of preparation. In any case, the team finished that part of the match with six goals, and the scorers continued to mount – eight scored in the first half – so it wasn’t just one or two people who took the lead.

Then Nora Sumiji and Kata Hajdu began to “go ahead”, scoring their third goal in the first minutes of the third period. The New Zealanders scored their second goal from a rebound, and the fact that the number of shots on goal in the middle of the quarter was 20-6 volumes. After that, the visitors got a little lively, scoring three goals in the second half of the quarter, while our level of concentration dropped somewhat, so in light of history these eight minutes turned out to be unexpectedly even (4-4).

By the last quarter, the girls were more “together”, at least they closed well in defence, while up front they scored three goals in three minutes, while Hajdu and Somiji entered the “foursome”. Halfway through the quarter, the game settled down a bit, our attacks dropped a bit, and the New Zealanders didn’t have enough strength to break through the wall anymore – they were in the quarter-finals, and we didn’t score a goal. A goal in the last five-and-a-half minutes, but overall, the first game of the summer went really well for the girls.

Al-Ittihad coach Marton Bentzor:

“Except for the third quarter, I really liked what I saw from the girls. After a long preparation, we just played the first game, which is always a challenge. Besides, we shoot seventeen players on the field, six of them are missing every day, and we don’t plan to play.” Any of the matches here are in the strongest imaginable streak – the highest. With all that in mind, I can say I’m satisfied with the way we played today.”
