The devastating bushfires in the Barclay region of the Northern Territory of Australia a week ago had already burned an area of more than 9,300 square kilometers, and had not yet been contained.
The Northern Territory Fire Chief said the size of the fires burning 1,000 kilometers southeast of Darwin is about four times the area of the Australian capital. He added that they have dealt with large wildfires before, but this is the largest they have had to deal with so far.
A complete fire ban has been announced in the Northern Territory, and it has been declared a fire danger area until the end of February.Firefighters from South Australia and New South Wales were also deployed to control the bushfires.
