At the September event, Apple did not announce a security function that would make it possible to identify that a sealed iPhone 15 box is truly original, unopened packaging. It’s a clever solution, but the question is to what extent it can be imitated.

We have heard more than one story about fraudulent sellers (unofficial, of course) selling used or refurbished devices as new in secretly resealed packages. That’s exactly why Apple has quietly added a new verification feature to iPhone 15 boxes. It has introduced a security mechanism that relies on UV light to verify the authenticity of the device and prevent anyone from being scammed when purchasing an iPhone from an unknown store.

A video has surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo explaining the solution: iPhone 15 boxes contain some stickers and QR codes that only appear under UV light. These holograms help customers and even Apple determine whether a sealed box is authentic or not.

It is no coincidence that Apple remained silent about this, because they guessed that once the news about the boxes was announced, the use of hidden holograms would not be a deterrent, as the technology and holograms could be copied. However, it is not known how expensive this measure will be to reduce it and whether it is worth dealing with counterfeiting – it is certain that in the coming weeks and months, it will not reach small-scale fraudsters. (In terms of costs, of course, the situation is different for Apple, which uses boxes for tens of millions of iPhone 15 series phones, compared to a company that produces, say, only a few hundred boxes.)

There is also a small problem: Since most consumers do not carry a UV lamp, the consumer who buys the iPhone 15 series model must ask the store to put the box under the UV light. Of course, you can almost eliminate the possibility of a scam if you buy your iPhone from Apple, a service provider, or a well-known major store.

Regardless, you can always open the box in front of the seller and them Settings » General » Information Menu item, we look at the phone’s unique IMEI number. This should match the number on the label on the box.
