Another Hungarian university has joined the top universities in the world, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) announced on Wednesday.

Hungary’s innovation performance has also improved further, according to the Global Innovation Index report, also published on Wednesday.
The Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, one of the most recognized international rankings of higher education, has been published since 2004. The assessment takes into account the three main missions of universities:
Education, research and commercial activity.
In addition to the leading traditional institutions in Western Europe and North America, Hungarian higher education stands out in the global competition dictated by top-performing Asian universities which places the ranking methodology at the center of its higher education development strategy, KIM announced.
Among Hungarian higher education institutions, Semmelweis University remains in the top 1% of universities in the world, with a score higher than last year at 251-300. Ended in the middle. The University of Debrecen improved 400 places to 601-800. I applied to this category.
Fifteen Hungarian universities are among the best European institutions
Among the 15 ranked Hungarian universities, there are also three church-run institutions.

Phil Batty, head of global affairs at THE, was quoted as saying in the statement: “It has been impressive to see Hungary strengthening its position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings over time.“
He added that the ranking is only open to research-intensive and globally oriented universities, and is the most comprehensive, balanced and rigorous performance evaluation system in the world, which uses 17 performance indicators.
He said that Hungary has constantly increased its participation in the rankings, from 7 universities in 2018 to 11 today, and in the intense global competition this year – from two last year to three this year – in the first exclusive list of thousands in the world.
Phil Paty particularly congratulated the University of Debrecen for improving two places this year to be among the top 800 universities in the rankings, as well as the University of Széchenjé Istvan for appearing in the world rankings for the first time.
According to the Ministry’s information, in the global classification of the Global Innovation Index 2023, which was also released on Wednesday, Hungary advanced one place in terms of innovative performance, occupying – in this regard – 33rd place in the classification that summarizes the results of 132 countries. Regarding the seven main “performance pillars” of the GII, Hungary improved its ranking in four cases compared to the previous year’s data.
Hungary’s performance ranks 26th in the “Knowledge and Technology Scores” pillar, while it ranks 30th above the EU average in the “Business Development” pillar.
The announcement stated that Palash Hanko, Minister of State responsible for Innovation and Higher Education, drew attention in a video clip posted on his Facebook page, to the fact that with Széchenjé István University advancing in the top two rankings “12 of our universities are now in the top 5% of the world’s 30,000 institutions“.
Not only are Hungarian universities getting stronger, but also Hungary’s innovative performance, which means that Hungary’s “Compared to the level of innovation expenditure, it produces more innovation results and thus enhances the competitiveness of the Hungarian economy“- confirmed the State Minister, according to Kim’s statement.
