Although I also love city building games, so I always try to stay up to date with the topic, but I have to admit that I haven’t even heard of this game yet. However, it seems to be a real hidden gem, as the first version of it has been quietly making its inroads since 2019 on the steam. But before we continue, take a look at the trailer below to see what I’m talking about when I say it’s all incredibly familiar.
The game in question is Workers and Resources: The Soviet Republic, which is actually a classic city building strategy. As the title makes clear, our mission here will be to build and prosper a Soviet city. Based on the video above (which was taken at the start of Early Access four years ago, but the gist of it still shows), all of this somehow reminds me of our little country some thirty or forty years ago!
The players’ task is not only to build the city, but also to take care of its operation. It is necessary to establish residential complexes, build factory complexes, and of course provide appropriate infrastructure. It must be determined which raw materials will be extracted near the city and which raw materials will be obtained through trade.
Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic has been in Early Access for a long time, but during this time a lot of new content has been added. Recently, for example, the mechanism for garbage collection, treatment, maintenance and renovation, as well as demolition and debris removal, has also emerged. It can be seen from the trailers and images that this game does not want to overpower with its unique graphics, but with its undoubtedly unique details and atmosphere. The creators recently found a partner in this, when the 3Division studio and the Hooded Horse publishing house reached an agreement. Hopefully this will also bring us closer to the premiere of the full release. And one more little clue at the end: the game also has a Hungarian translation.
