Pittsburgh Steelers fans on X seem to think they’ve found an incendiary account that, they claim, belongs to under-fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada this week.
Steelers fans found an account with the username @DannyFootball777, whose profile picture shows nothing but a black Pittsburgh hat on a white background and who not only has no followers, but also doesn’t follow anyone.
However, the account contains a long list of positive tweets defending Canada, which has become a punching bag for Pittsburgh’s fan base due to the offense’s struggles through the first four games of the season.
Steeler Nation has found a new scapegoat. “Wonder how long it will be until the next guy gets on the hot seat,” @DannyFootball77 wrote in one message.
‘So the line o is an excuse for [Steelers quarterback] Kenny [Pickett] He struggles but the OC is expected to turn water into wine. Makes sense,” read another post.
Following the post from the alleged burner account, a Steelers fan account by the name @PickensBurgh posted a screen recording showing several tweets from @DannyFootball777 and captioned the recording, “Matt Canada really made bro.”
Another user named @PPP_Benjamin went further and tried to go through the process of forgetting the password while investigating the account and posted a screenshot claiming that the supposed copy account was linked to the email address “ma*******” *****@S* ******.***.’
The rumor was eventually shut down in a post from ProFootballTalk after a tweet was posted saying: “To whoever pays the Matt Canada burner b****** account, the Steelers use ‘steelers.nfl.com’ and not ‘steelers.’ .com” to their internal email addresses.”
Canada and the Steelers will have the opportunity to right the ship this weekend when they take on the Baltimore Ravens in an NFC North divisional contest.
Earlier in the week, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was asked if he intended to make any changes to the coaching staff’s responsibilities on offense, specifically calling the plays, to which he replied: “Not at this point.”
However, Tomlin admitted the offensive coaching in Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans wasn’t good enough.
