Science has a special importance for countries, as it plays a major role in increasing international competitiveness, given that science acts as an engine for economic growth. On the other hand, it is also of the utmost importance to take scientific aspects as a basis, said Peter Sztaray, Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for security policy and energy security in The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which represented Hungary at the conference jointly organized by the Swiss Foreign Ministry and the Science and Technology Association in Geneva, announced that the Diplomatic Foundation will take place on 13 October 2023 in Geneva.
The purpose of this annual event is to take into account the latest results of scientific and technological developments, and to give political decision-makers the opportunity to evaluate the social and economic impacts of these innovations. The 2023 event – attended by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Slovenian Minister of Digital Transformation Dr. Emilia Stominova Duh and Dr. Patricia Gruber, Science and Technology Advisor to the US Secretary of State – will discuss the present and future of artificial and quantum intelligence. In the conference’s high-level panel discussion on the impact of technological innovations on improving the quality of life, Peter Sztaray stressed that Hungary is successful in the field of innovation because we pay special attention to scientific research and high-level education. And to the dangers of its politicization and to the fact that the emergence of new technologies brings not only benefits, but also risks, so it is in our common interest to reduce these risks through scientific, professional and political cooperation.
On the sidelines of the event, bilateral talks took place between Minister of State Peter Staray, Thomas Grimminger, Executive Director of the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP), and Dr. Michael Ryan, Executive Director of the World Health Organization (WHO).
