Have you ever had dinner in an expensive restaurant, saw the bill, and thought: How great would it be to leave in English without paying?
Well, a 50-year-old Lithuanian man living in Spain went out of his way to do just that, not just once, but 20 times in one year. Because he had a proven tactic of faking a heart attack, he wanted to avoid paying the bills. However, the scam did not end well, because the man was arrested last month, local police said From the inside.
The last time, the man ordered two glasses of whiskey and a seafood paella, and at the end of the meal he received a bill for 34.85 euros, or about 13,000 Hungarian forints. The man claimed that he was going to his hotel room to get money, but the restaurant staff would not let him leave without paying. The man then dramatically threw himself to the ground and pretended to have a heart attack.
The restaurant employees did not fall for the trick and called the police, who immediately identified the man, who had been arrested four times previously for similar reasons. According to one police officer, the man usually greeted his colleagues with a smile and did not seem to mind spending a night or two behind bars.
