Two Brock University faculty members were recently honored by the Canadian Society for Physiology (CSEP) for their outstanding contributions to research and service.

At the society’s annual conference Oct. 11-14 in Calgary, Alta., Nota Klintrou, professor and chair of the Department of Kinesiology, received a CSEP Honor Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the practice of exercise physiology in Canada.
“The Honor Award is the highest and most prestigious form of recognition offered by CSEP, and Dr. Klintrou is the second woman to be honored with it,” said Peter Tidus, dean of the College of Applied Health Sciences.
Clintro’s research uses basic and applied science approaches to study human performance and the effects of athletic training on children and youth. She investigates how exercise, inflammation, immune responses, sexual maturation, obesity, and nutritional choices affect muscle and bone growth and development.
She is involved in several health and sports organizations, including CSEP, Osteoporosis Canada and the International Gymnastics Federation. Clintro has also supported international sporting events such as the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, and the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara.
Prior to receiving her award, Klintrou, a CSEP Fellow, had the honor of awarding Tiidus the designation of a CSEP Fellow, which recognizes leaders in the community who have inspired research excellence among CSEP members or strengthened the relationship between academic and professional members through significant or consistent efforts. service.
