A recent announcement by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) revealed that the company is planning to produce an electric version of the Defender. The move is part of JLR’s broader strategy to offer nine fully electric models by 2030. These vehicles will be produced at JLR’s plant in Slovakia.
JLR, the British carmaker owned by India’s Tata Motors, had earlier announced plans to invest £15 billion over the next five years. This investment aims to develop electric cars, and the all-new Jaguar electric car is expected to be launched in 2025.
However, JLR has yet to set a timeline for the launch of the new Defender electric car. The current model of the Defender is manufactured at the Nitra plant in Slovakia, where production began five years ago and employs approximately 5,000 workers.
In addition to these plans, Jaguar Land Rover has also revealed its intention to produce six electric models in the UK under the Range Rover and Jaguar brands by 2030. These vehicles will be manufactured at the Solihull and Halewood plants.
