Alonso in the second row for Aston: This is what we needed!

The previous two times they didn’t even make it to the third division, and now the second row belongs to Aston Martin. Fernando Alonso says they needed it badly, and Lance Stroll knows they were lucky.

In recent weeks, Aston Martin, which was flying high at the beginning of the year, seemed to have collapsed. Their developments didn’t really work, and the team seemed to lose direction, and it showed in the results. In Austin, two of their Division I rivals have already been eliminated, but in Mexico, their performance was capped in the second quarter.

Then in Brazil, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll got into the top ten without any problems, and in the third quarter even Fortuna dominated them. In the big storm that came midway through the practice session, the two green cars made a fast lap first, resulting in a 3-4 result. It became a place. Stroll beat his teammate in qualifying for the third time this year and was able to celebrate his best position so far.

But Alonso also celebrated and, according to him, this result was well deserved.

“We needed this. In the last two Grand Prix, we experimented a little bit, starting in the pits and things like that. So we needed this great result here in Brazil! With both cars, we will give the team some hope, prove that we understand some things and that we “We are fully competitive.”

“This now proves that we know what we are doing, and I am happy about that.” said the Spaniard with satisfaction.

Regarding the competition, he noted that he would be happier continuing on the dry track. “Hopefully it will be a clear weekend. I hope to have a good Saturday, a time trial and a sprint, and then on Sunday we will start the race from a very good position. It probably won’t rain. They said that today. Hopefully tomorrow will be sunny and people will enjoy it more.” .

Meanwhile, Stroll admitted that Aston Martin had now achieved a result beyond their strength, and that, according to him, they would not be able to maintain this position in Sunday’s race.

“We are aiming for the podium, but I think it is difficult. I don’t think our car will be the third fastest car.”

“McLaren will be fast on Sunday. We were lucky today with the rain and the fact that we got a run in us early. But Perez will also come through the field, and so will McLaren. We’ll see what we can do.” Al-Kindi said.
