Carlos Alcaraz wants to regain the world title from Novak Djokovic, and he may have the opportunity to do so in Shanghai if he reaches the final.
Carlos Alcaraz is currently 580 points behind Novak Djokovic in second place in the world rankings. Before the first round of the tournament in Shanghai, answering questions from journalists, the Spaniard admitted that even during training, only Serbia and the world number one are on his mind.
“I’m not going to lie, Djokovic is on my mind almost in every training session. I have only one goal, which is to be world number one at the end of the year. I train with this thought and start every tournament with this thought. I have to give my best in every training session, I have to “I’m 100 percent with every ball to catch Novak. He’s also 100 percent focused. I’ve watched some of his training sessions and I want to perform like that every time.”
Alcaraz also talked about the things he still needs to improve on, which, according to him, caused him to lose the match to Sinner.
“Mentally, it is very difficult to be able to give my maximum in every training session, but if I want to be the best, I will need to. I want to learn in every training and every tournament, and I have to correct my mistakes or what did not go well before.
For example, in the second match against Yannick in Beijing, I couldn’t concentrate enough, and I will have to change that. I want to be the best, so that my game is not good or bad sometimes.
Jannik and I played against each other a lot. I always want to beat everyone, but I have other feelings against them. Whether I win or lose to him, I always learn something new. “It would be great if our competition could reach the level represented by the duo of Rafa and Roger.”
