US Chief of Staff, General Charles Brown, expressed doubts about China’s intention to invade Taiwan. This was stated by the American military officer while speaking to reporters in Tokyo He believes that Chinese President Xi Jinping does not plan to occupy Taiwan by force. Instead, he noted, the Chinese president is likely to use alternative strategies.
Brown highlighted the logistical challenges involved in carrying out an invasion of Taiwan. He urged the United States and its allies to remain vigilant against other possible tactics used by Xi, e.g Military, diplomatic or economic pressure.
These comments came at a time when Both the United States and China are trying to ease escalating tensions through renewed dialogue. US President Joe Biden and Xi are scheduled to meet next week in San Francisco at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and this will be their second meeting since they became presidents of their countries.
