They don’t even trust Facebook back home

They don't even trust Facebook back home

Americans consider Google the most trusted brand, and most of them would regulate social media the most difficult.

More than 40 percent of users in the US already consider Facebook to be unreliable, which is commensurate with the scale of the Chinese TikTok rejection and even more unfavorable than they think of one of the heroes of the US-China trade war, Huawei. Moreover, the skeptics are much larger than those who remain committed to Facebook.

SeoClarity, developer of the content search and optimization platform Based on the January survey Six out of ten overseas users consider the Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Samsung trademarks to be original. This time, Google takes the first place with 65.7%, but the 5th Samsung also stands at 62.3%, which means that the vast majority have a positive view of it. Additionally, only 13 percent see South Koreans as untrustworthy, compared to more than 21 percent for Google.

In contrast, 42.6% of the 1057 users surveyed negatively commented on Facebook’s credibility, while only 37.8% still held a positive view of the community service provider. This means that Facebook is not far ahead of TikTok, while Huawei is 30.4 percent ahead in both indicators. It’s true that other social media players can only blink in comparison to Facebook: Twitter or Reddit rejected their trust rate, but it’s still well below 50 percent.

And now trust is going to be really important

In this context, the survey revealed that nearly three-quarters, 72.5 percent, of Americans believe that search services and social media platforms are inseparable from the content they offer, and that it is their responsibility to verify that this information is correct. 62% said there is a need for stricter social media regulation, with 25% neutral on the issue.

Interestingly, nearly half of users in the United States still believe that the websites themselves can have a huge impact on where they appear in Google’s search results – and in practice, of course, they look very different. Anyway, confidence in Google appears to be a bit overrated in other cases as well. One in five users unreservedly accepts Google’s search suggestions, and what’s even more frightening is that six out of ten believe that Google’s responses to medical searches contain only information filtered by health professionals.

Although similar statistics are not always given much importance, they are also indicated by more and more people, and trust is particularly appreciated in a new era that will be marked by the struggle for digital monopolies. Big tech companies are not, in fact, in a position to radically alter their anti-competitive practices, while receiving increased attention from users and regulators alike, and pre-regulation to prevent violations is emerging in the wake of the sanctions imposed.
