The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was able to transmit data from outer space to Earth via an optical communication device at a distance of 16 million kilometers, setting a new record – He writes player.hu. On its way to these asteroids, the Psyche spacecraft sent a large amount of data back to Earth, and the near-infrared signal from the probe was received by the Hale Telescope, an instrument located at the Palomar Observatory in San Diego. During the data flight from Psyche, both the planet and the spacecraft changed positions, requiring constant tuning of the transceiver. This data transfer requires a level of precision similar to pointing a laser pointer at a moving coin, NASA officials said.
This was the first time a message had been sent to our planet from deep space using optical communication that had previously been tested in Earth orbit and on the Moon.
