West Vancouver High School begins construction of a multi-sport facility

WEST VANCOUVER – Construction on the West Vancouver Place for Sport project at West Vancouver High School is scheduled to begin this month, and is expected to be completed by winter 2025.

Mayor Mark Sager made the announcement during a recent council meeting.

Funded by the British Columbia Ministry of Municipal Affairs through the Growing Communities Fund, the facility will include a variety of sports facilities.

Among them are a six-lane track and an artificial turf field – both of which will be equipped with lighting systems for competitions and evening practices.

Additional features will cater to many track and field activities, including long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault and shot put. The complex will also provide training areas for discus, hammer and javelin throwing.

As announced in February 2021, the running track will be named Harry Jerome Oval, in honor of the famous Olympic runner. This was a joint decision between West Vancouver Schools and the West Vancouver District.

The development also includes upgrades to existing bathrooms at West Vancouver High School to enhance accessibility and convenience for public use, especially outside of school hours. According to the release, these renovations, along with the extensive athletic and training facilities, underscore the complex’s anticipated role as an important, multi-use addition to the West Van athletic community.
