Athletics Canada is pleased to reveal the list of athletes who will represent the Maple Leaf at the 2024 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, next March.
Canada will field five teams (women’s and men’s U20, women’s and men’s open, and a mixed relay team) featuring two Olympians, 10 World Cross Country Championship veterans, and several national champions and top athletes.
“I’m particularly excited about the dynamic mix of experience and new talent within our team. We have athletes for whom these Championships are a highlight, while others will use them as an opportunity to gain valuable experience on the world stage. We also have individuals who see this as a high point,” said team captain Heather Henegar. “A strategic launch in their journey towards the Paris Olympics later in the summer.”
The competition will be held on March 30 in Friendship Park, next to the Danube River in the heart of Belgrade, which was also the site of the 2013 European Championships.
“Coaches and athletes will be working hard over the next few months to ensure that each athlete’s preparations align with their specific goals, whether that is peak performance in Belgrade or part of a larger strategy leading up to the Olympics,” Henegar said.
