FAIRY LAMPS CAN TAKE GLITTER WITH YOUR Wi-Fi, experts warn.
Strings of flashing lights can create electromagnetic fields that may then interfere with wireless broadband in homes and offices.
But a flash of inspiration means that people can do something simple to correct the problem, simply by moving the center away.
In addition to urging families to be a little careful when putting up their Christmas trees, families are being urged to be careful when handling tools and other household appliances.
Gadgets including microwaves, lamps, stereo speakers, baby monitors and even some refrigerators emit radio waves that can also cause problems.
The same applies to weak wiring or placing the router close to a neighbor’s device.
The problems were highlighted in research conducted by broadband provider Zen.
A spokesperson said: “At this time of year, Christmas lights are everywhere – on your tree and scattered around your home.
“However, unfortunately, these cute, shiny things also emit electromagnetic radiation that can be harmful to your Wi-Fi network.
“A few lights may not have much of an impact, but when you have hundreds of them around your home, their effects can be amplified, potentially causing interference with your Wi-Fi signal and, ultimately, dropped connections.”
