Dennis Allen: Derek Carr’s concussion protocol, we’ll evaluate it as we go forward

Saints quarterback Derek Carr has returned to concussion protocol.

Carr suffered his second concussion in the past four weeks during Sunday’s 33-28 loss to the Lions in Detroit, and has also dealt with several right shoulder issues, but has yet to miss the start of his first season in New Orleans. After Sunday’s loss, coach Dennis Allen faced questions about whether it was time to change that.

Allen said it’s “concerning” any time a player sustains a concussion in response to a question about multiple head injuries in a short period of time, and was also asked about the cumulative effect of injuries as a reason for Carr to sit. The team did something similar with Jameis Winston last year, but Allen said it’s not the same picture for the players.

“I think they both are just like that Different situationsAllen said. “They’re two completely different situations. We’re not addressing what we did last year and what we’re going to do this year, okay? Look, Derek’s in the concussion protocol now. We’ll evaluate that as we go forward.”

The Saints have home games against the Panthers and Giants in the next two weeks and need to start putting together some wins if they want to capture the NFC South title. A concussion could keep Carr out of the picture at least for the Panthers and Home crowd He might not mind if Allen stays off the field for a while.
