Tesla is recalling more than two million cars after US authorities determined that its driver assistance system, Autopilot, was not working properly, giving drivers too much of a sense of security.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has looked into crashes involving Tesla vehicles over the past two years, and says the mishaps occurred even though the vehicles always had their driver assistance system turned on.

Tesla responded by announcing a recall of two million vehicles and admitting that the system “may not be sufficient to prevent driver error.” The company led by Elon Musk announced that a software update would be sent to the cars. They added that it is not necessary to transport the damaged cars to the service center.
At the same time, the company emphasized that the driving support system increases public safety.

Although “automated technology holds great promise for improving safety, it still requires responsible application at this time,” NHTSA said in connection with the case. They added that the operation of the program will be monitored even after the update.
As Index also wrote, this is the second recall affecting Tesla vehicles this year. The autonomous driving system has had problems in the past, allowing the vehicle it is driving to exceed the speed limit and enter intersections in illegal or unexpected ways.
