The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) also announces the 2024 Excellence Programme, the purpose of which is to support the efforts of young researchers to become independent, as well as to provide internationally recognized researchers with the opportunity to develop new and pioneering research topics. Or continue their excellent research projects that are already doing well.
You can apply for grants in two categories. Start-up support (first incentive) can be offered to talented researchers under the age of 40 who demonstrate outstanding and consistently increasing performance, who obtained their PhD after 1 January 2014 and before 31 December 2020, and who were previously well-regarded local and/or have received support in Applications for postdoctoral or international research studies with their own research topic, individually or as a research group leader – the MTA wrote in its statement sent to MTI on Friday.
Leading researchers with internationally recognized, outstanding and ever-increasing performance who have experience leading a research group, i.e. who have recently developed their own research topic, can apply for an Advanced Grant (Lendület H), a Cutting Edge Grant (I, II), or a Cutting Edge or others, Lendület- received support in similar international tenders.
What is new is that researchers who after 1 January 2021 submitted an application in the “Initiation”, “Consolidation”, “Advanced” or “Synergy” category after the European Research Council (ERC) invitation and their application participated in the second round of evaluation as well, but did not receive support. .
Researchers participating in the Lendület program must agree to apply for one of the ERC Calls for Excellence during the support period. Winners in both categories must also pledge to remain in Hungary for the duration of their Lendület scholarship. Researchers submitting applications must have an MTMT ID with up-to-date data.
The maximum amount of support that can be applied for is 40 million Hungarian forints per year on average in the Lendület I category, and 50 million Hungarian forints per year in the Lendület H category.
