At least four people died in storms that tore through the northeastern coast of the United States on Monday, MTI reported.
A car was swept away in a flooded Catskill Creek in New York State when the driver was driving around a flooded road divider. A man was found dead inside his submerged car in Pennsylvania. In Maine, a man was killed by a tree while trying to remove debris from his roof; A falling tree also killed an 89-year-old man in Massachusetts.
The weather cyclone, accompanied by heavy rains and winds, arrived in the northeast of the country on Monday, after rain fell on southern parts of the east coast on Sunday, causing flooding in some places. The storm caused the most serious damage in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine, where roads were flooded, fallen trees blocked traffic, and hundreds of flights were canceled.
As a result of the storm, more than half a million households were without power on Monday. Service was suspended at 280,000 places in Massachusetts and 350,000 places in Maine.
The storm caused rainfall amounting to 130 millimeters in some areas of New Jersey, and 100 millimeters in the northeastern part of Pennsylvania, while wind gusts exceeded 110 kilometers per hour. In addition to the precipitation, the front coming from the south was accompanied by unusually moderate temperatures, exceeding 15 degrees in some places in the northeastern regions of the country.
