Netflix plans to open service locations where fans can immerse themselves in the world of their favorite TV shows, purchase official merchandise related to the films and series, eat themed foods, and, according to current plans, even try the Squid Game obstacle course.
the Bloomberg reports Josh Simon, the company’s vice president of consumer products, expects the first space to be called Netflix House, where retail products will mix with dining and live experiences. The house is expected to open in 2025.
Netflix has been experimenting with “pop-up fan experiences” for several years, and has so far offered forty of them in twenty cities around the world. These parties include The Queen’s Ball: A Bridgerton Experience, a multi-city night of drinks and dancing inspired by the drama, and a Netflix pop-up store at Grove Mall in Los Angeles.
Netflix House will be the company’s first permanent location, a sign of its increasing investment in marketing its shows and building fan communities.
For decades, major media companies (such as Disney) have used theme park rides, along with costumes and rides, to promote their characters. This type of business is new for Netflix and may be a response to studios who have criticized the company’s poor marketing efforts.
According to the company’s management, Netflix Ház is primarily engaged in promoting its titles, so far it does not expect significant income.
We’ve seen how much fans love to immerse themselves in the worlds of our films and TV shows, and we’ve been thinking a lot about how we can take that to the next level.
Vice President Josh Simon said.
Changes are expected not only in the subscription system, but also in Netflix’s internal structure. The transformation will mainly affect the animation section. |
Netflix House will constantly change its theme, including the show and restaurant showcase. Simon hasn’t revealed more information than this yet, as they have yet to find a final location for the Netflix House. Since most of the pop-up experiences were primarily available in major cities like New York, Tokyo, and Mexico City, it is expected that Netflix House will also open in a place with similar traffic.
